HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4 Deacon Timothy Jackie (Carlos) Butler of Chicago on March 14,
5 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Deacon Butler was born on April 22, 1948, to
7 Harrison Butler and Mary (Stampley) Butler in Chicago; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He graduated from Parker High School in Chicago
9 and later went on to receive his B.A. from Chicago State
10 University and was working towards his master's degree in
11 social work; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In 1981, he married Sylvia Young and they had five
13 children; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He worked as a cook for the railroad, as an
15 insurance salesman, and as an administrator and social service
16 worker; it was his work with agencies such as the Community
17 Mental Health Council, Chicago Urban League, Catholic
18 Charities, and the Alliance for Community Empowerment that he
19 held close to his heart; he also volunteered for several
20 not-for-profit agencies throughout the city; and
 
21     WHEREAS, In 1973, Deacon Butler joined the Now Generation
22 Church of Christ; in 1983, he and his family joined the
23 Burnside Community Baptist Church where he served on the
24 Deacons Ministry, the Music Ministry, and was one of the
25 founders of the Man Seed Camp; he graduated from the BCBC
26 Seminary in 1990 where he received the degree of Elder; he
27 later was a member of the St. Mark Church and the Harvey
28 Memorial Community Church; he provided service to all the
29 auxiliaries of Harvey Memorial, however, his heart was in the
30 Media Ministry, the ACTS of Harvey, and the Men's Ministry; and

1     WHEREAS, He lived life to the fullest; he enjoyed
2 traveling, cooking, music, nature, and theater; he was an
3 outdoorsman and loved to spend time with his family and
4 friends; he was generous, well-liked, and a friend to many; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Deacon Butler was preceded in death by his mother,
6 Mary (Stampley) Butler; his aunts, Helen (Stampley) Jackson and
7 Bessie (Stampley) Gaines; and his uncles, Curley Stampley,
8 Freddy Stampley, and Francis Stampley; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The passing of Deacon Timothy C. Butler is felt by
10 all who knew and loved him, especially his children, LeQuita
11 (Anthony) Peel, Tonya Young, Aaron (Diane) Smith, and Timothy
12 and Antoinette; his grandchildren, Cory, Jasmine, Jordan,
13 Kendall, Aaron, and Jenny; his uncle, George Stampley; his
14 sisters, Dorothy (James) Daniel and Yvonne (Gloster) Current;
15 his cousins, Ella Davis (Ma dea), Debra Smith, Anita Downs,
16 Carolyn Davis, Kim (Judy) Davis, Kenneth (Cynthia) Davis, Noah
17 Downs, William Downs, and Glorianne Barbour; his nieces,
18 Natalie (Paul) Wilson, Angelyn Current, Tiffany Current,
19 Marquella Davis, and Michelle Davis; and his nephew, Trey
20 Daniel; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He also had a special extended family which
22 included mothers, Marion Monroe and Eddie Mae Susberry; son,
23 Shaun Mance; daughters, Robyn Sligh and Jaton McCree; sisters,
24 Eloise Jordan and Vanessa Davis; nieces, Michelle (Missy) Brown
25 and Y'Von Evans; grandchildren, Darius, Ryan, Janyah, and
26 Jerrick; special friends, Don Harper, Stan Jamison, and Darnell
27 Fourte; and the Sligh/Black Family, the Eaton family, the BCBC
28 family, the Harvey Memorial family, and a host of other friends
29 and relatives; therefore, be it
 
30     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we mourn the passing of Deacon Timothy C. Butler and extend our
2 sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community;
3 and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
6 sympathy.
