| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Hazel Lands, an esteemed |
| 4 |
| resident of Harrisburg, on the occasion of her 100th birthday |
| 5 |
| on April 14, 2005; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, She was born Hazel McDermott in 1905 to John and |
| 7 |
| Etta (Reed) McDermott; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, On May 17, 1922, she married John Will Lands, and |
| 9 |
| they had four children, George Lowell, Bobby Lee, Billy Mack, |
| 10 |
| and Randall Gene; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Hazel's husband was a coal miner and they also had |
| 12 |
| a small farm and raised registered Poll Hereford cattle; after |
| 13 |
| her husband passed away, she continued with the farm and |
| 14 |
| raising cattle; she was also the cook at Pierson School and |
| 15 |
| Independence School; she loved to cook and loved being around |
| 16 |
| kids; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Hazel is known for her delicious coconut pies, her |
| 18 |
| love for animals, a quilt in the making, plus many other |
| 19 |
| crafts; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, She is a devoted Christian and member of the |
| 21 |
| Saline Ridge Missionary Baptist Church; she has spent her life |
| 22 |
| being a loving mother and friend to all; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, She has been blessed with 10 grandchildren, 18 |
| 24 |
| great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and is |
| 25 |
| eagerly anticipating a great-great-great-grandchild in July of |
| 26 |
| this year; therefore, be it
