| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois congratulate the Lyle and Joy Michael family |
4 |
| on being named Clinton County's 2004 Farm Family of the Year; |
5 |
| and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, This award recognizes an outstanding farm family |
7 |
| who has distinguished itself through participation in family |
8 |
| activities, community and civic service, as well as displaying |
9 |
| good farm operation management; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, The Michael's have four children, Clinton, |
11 |
| Austin, Landon, and Kali; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, The Michael family lives on a small dairy farm |
13 |
| located in Brookside Township Section 17 on the Southeast |
14 |
| corner of Clinton County; the farm is located west of Centralia |
15 |
| along the south side of State Route 161; the farm was bought in |
16 |
| 1933 by Lyle's grandparents, Henry and Clara Michael; in 1956, |
17 |
| Lyle's parents, Elmer and Marilyn managed the family farm, so |
18 |
| it was fitting that in 1992, Lyle and Joy became the farm's |
19 |
| next generation; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Lyle and Joy milk approximately 100 head of |
21 |
| Holstein cows on the 40-acre home farm; in addition to the home |
22 |
| farm, they own or operate a total of 520 acres of farmland; |
23 |
| conservation stewardship is evident with the |
24 |
| corn-soybean-wheat with alfalfa rotation and the chisel/disk |
25 |
| tillage systems used to reduce erosion; Lyle's father was the |
26 |
| first in the area to buy a chisel plow; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, The Michael's have incorporated No-till into |
28 |
| their tillage system on their highly erodible ground; they have |
29 |
| 135 acres that have remained in a No-till tillage system for |
30 |
| the past 15 years; and
