| WHEREAS, Pat Indovina, a long-time Glenview resident and |
3 |
| 22-year Grove School veteran, received the 2004 Elementary Art |
4 |
| Educator of the Year award from the Illinois Art Education |
5 |
| Association; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, She discovered her passion for art when her |
7 |
| parents signed her up for after-school art classes as a |
8 |
| youngster; the Michigan native continued with art classes |
9 |
| through high school, and later focused on print-making and |
10 |
| watercolors in the School of Architecture and Design at the |
11 |
| University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; before coming to Grove |
12 |
| School, she taught art for 10 years at Northbrook's Indian |
13 |
| Ridge School; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, During three decades as a teacher, Pat has |
15 |
| welcomed into her art room exciting new materials, but her |
16 |
| fundamental teaching strategies have not changed, it has always |
17 |
| been her goal to help students realize their creative |
18 |
| abilities; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Over the years, she has learned how to incorporate |
20 |
| computer technology into her classes, while preserving the |
21 |
| "hands-on" nature of the lessons, as well as teaching |
22 |
| traditional photography; a student digital photo project of |
23 |
| fall foliage earned Pat and a colleague recognition from the |
24 |
| State of Illinois Technology "Tech 2004" Conference; she has |
25 |
| also worked with her colleagues to craft lessons that link art |
26 |
| with other subjects; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, Kathryn Hillyer, President of the Illinois Art |
28 |
| Education Association, said she was impressed by how Pat has |
29 |
| embraced technology in her curriculum and "the work she does to |
30 |
| make sure all children are included, regardless of their |
31 |
| abilities; she sparks the kids' interest; she gets the kids to |
