Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department to create a registry of the occurrence of birth defects in Illinois. Requires physicians and midwives to report the occurrence of birth defects to the Department. Requires the Department to file with the General Assembly an annual report summarizing the reported information.

| AN ACT concerning State government.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and |
5 |
| Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is |
6 |
| amended by adding Section 2310-339 as follows: |
7 |

| Sec. 2310-339. Birth defects registry. The Department |
9 |
| shall create a registry of birth defects occurring in Illinois. |
10 |
| Each physician and midwife practicing in Illinois must report |
11 |
| to the Department the occurrence of birth defects encountered |
12 |
| by the physician or midwife in the course of his or her |
13 |
| practice. The Department shall adopt rules prescribing the |
14 |
| birth defects to be reported under this Section and prescribing |
15 |
| the form and manner of reporting those birth defects to the |
16 |
| Department. The Department shall file with the General Assembly |
17 |
| an annual report summarizing the information reported by |
18 |
| physicians and midwives under this Section.
