 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 686

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 686 as follows:

 3    on  page  8,  by  replacing  lines  6  through  14  with  the
 4    following:
 5        "(g-5) Subsection 24-1(a)(6) does not apply to or  affect
 6    persons  licensed under federal law to manufacture any device
 7    or attachment of any kind designed, used, or intended for use
 8    in silencing the report of any  firearm,  or  ammunition  for
 9    those  firearms  equipped  with  those  devices, and actually
10    engaged in the business of  manufacturing  those  devices  or
11    ammunition,  but  only  with  respect  to activities that are
12    within the  lawful  scope  of  that  business,  such  as  the
13    manufacture,  transportation,  or testing of those devices or
14    ammunition. This exemption does  not  authorize  the  general
15    private  possession  of  any device or attachment of any kind
16    designed, used, or intended for use in silencing  the  report
17    of  any  firearm,  but only such possession and activities as
18    are within the  lawful  scope  of  a  licensed  manufacturing
19    business   described   in   this   subsection  (g-5).  During
20    transportation, those devices  shall  be  detached  from  any
21    weapon or not immediately accessible.".
