093_HJ0044 LRB093 14436 DRH 20127 r 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, 600,000 people visit Lincoln's New Salem State 3 historic site each year; and 4 WHEREAS, Most people visiting Abraham Lincoln historic 5 sites travel by car; and 6 WHEREAS, The portion of Illinois Route 123 extending from 7 Williamsville (Route 55) to Petersburg and the portion of 8 Route 97 extending from Route 123 to New Salem, the portion 9 of Route 97 extending from Springfield (Route 55) to New 10 Salem, and the portion of the Athens Blacktop extending from 11 Athens (Route 29) to New Salem afford access to the important 12 Abraham Lincoln historic site at New Salem; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 14 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 15 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of Illinois Route 16 123 extending from Williamsville To Petersburg and the 17 portion of Route 97 extending from Route 123 to New Salem, 18 the portion of Route 97 extending from Springfield to New 19 Salem, and the portion of the Athens Blacktop extending from 20 Athens to New Salem be collectively designated the Abraham 21 Lincoln Highway; and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That the portion of Illinois Route 123 23 extending from Williamsville to Petersburg and the portion of 24 Route 97 extending from Route 123 to New Salem, the portion 25 of Route 97 extending from Springfield to New Salem, and the 26 portion of the Athens Blacktop extending from Athens to New 27 Salem be designated the Northern Trail, the Southern Trail, 28 and the Central Trail, respectively, of the Abraham Lincoln 29 Highway; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 31 is requested to erect appropriate plaques or signs giving -2- LRB093 14436 DRH 20127 r 1 notice of the Abraham Lincoln Highway and the Northern Trail, 2 the Southern Trail, and the Central Trail of the Abraham 3 Lincoln Highway; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 5 delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of 6 Transportation and to the communities of Williamsville, 7 Petersburg, Springfield, and Athens.
