Amends the Code of Civil Procedure. Creates the Medical Malpractice Task Force. Outlines the membership and duties of the Medical Malpractice Task Force. Provides that the Task Force shall submit a written report containing recommendations for uniform levels of compensation for particular injuries to the Governor and the General Assembly by June 30, 2005.

| AN ACT concerning medical malpractice.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Code of Civil Procedure is amended by adding |
5 |
| Sections 2-1712.5 and 2-1712.7 as follows: |

| (735 ILCS 5/2-1712.5 new) |

| Sec. 2-1712.5. Medical Malpractice Task Force.
|

| (a) There is hereby established the Medical Malpractice |
9 |
| Task Force. |
10 |
| (b) The Task Force shall consist of 17 voting members: |
11 |
| (1) Two members of the Senate, appointed one each by |
12 |
| the President of the Senate and the Minority Leader of the |
13 |
| Senate. |

| (2) Two members of the House of Representatives, |
15 |
| appointed one each by the Speaker of the House of |
16 |
| Representatives and the Minority Leader of the House of |
17 |
| Representatives. |
18 |
| (3) Four members representing malpractice insurers, |
19 |
| appointed one each by the President of the Senate, the |
20 |
| Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of |
21 |
| Representatives, and the Minority Leader of the House of |
22 |
| Representatives. |
23 |
| (4) Four members representing physicians and hospitals |
24 |
| in the State, appointed one each by the President of the |
25 |
| Senate, the Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker of |
26 |
| the House of Representatives, and the Minority Leader of |
27 |
| the House of Representatives. |
28 |
| (5) Four members who have academic research |
29 |
| backgrounds involving the economic aspects of tort law, |
30 |
| appointed one each by the President of the Senate, the |
31 |
| Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of |
32 |
| Representatives, and the Minority Leader of the House of |
