| HB 1398 provides for an annual stipend of $6,500 for the supervisor of assessments of each county. This annual stipend is to be paid for by the State out of the General Revenue Fund. It provides that the Department of Revenue shall distribute the stipends in annual lump sum payments to the supervisor of assessments of each county. In addition, it eliminates language allowing the supervisor of assessments to receive additional compensation based on performance. There are 100 counties with Supervisors of Assessments at a cost to the State of $650,000 per year. However, the bill eliminates the performance bonus for supervisors of assessments, which currently costs $192,000 based on 2001 payment records (64 eligible officials). This leaves a negative fiscal impact to the state of $458,000 annually. |
