SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Parental alienation is recognized as a behavior
3by a parent or another trusted adult, such as a grandparent,
4aunt, uncle, or similar figure, that may unintentionally or
5intentionally disrupt the relationship between a child and a
6parent; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Such behaviors, including disparaging comments
8about the other parent, restricting contact, discouraging
9communication, or fostering unfounded fears, can create
10barriers to a child's emotional and psychological well-being
11by undermining their relationship with a caregiver; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Research by the Parental Alienation Study Group
13indicates that approximately 3.9 million children in the
14United States are affected by moderate to severe forms of
15parental alienation, and studies further show that over 22
16million parents in the United States may experience challenges
17related to parental alienation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Parental alienation is a matter of concern for
19the mental and emotional health of children and families,
20highlighting the importance of raising awareness and fostering
21understanding to address and mitigate such behaviors;

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 25,
32025 as Parental Alienation Awareness Day in the State of
4Illinois to encourage increased understanding, prevention, and
5intervention efforts to support healthy family relationships;
6and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we remain committed to equipping
8communities, educators, and caregivers with tools to identify
9and respond to behaviors that may negatively impact family
10relationships, while promoting the mental health and
11well-being of children; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be made
13available to organizations and individuals dedicated to
14supporting families and advocating for children's emotional
15well-being.
