SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Duane John Davis of Pekin, who passed
4away on November 26, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Davis was born to Willard W. and Katherine
6L. (Farmer) Davis in Jefferson City, Missouri on May 16, 1941;
7he served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany
8and through which he learned photography and film development;
9he achieved three associate degrees in multiple fields of
10study through Illinois Central College; he was previously
11married to Vivienne A. "Toni" (Major) Nelson and then Jill
12(Scheidler) Davis, and they survive; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Davis worked as a truck driver for Starr
14Transport, retiring in 2013; prior to that, he worked as an
15equipment repair technician at UARCO for many years; he also
16formerly served as a police officer for the Pekin Police
17Department and as police chief of the Delavan Police
18Department; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Davis pursued a multitude of hobbies
20throughout the years, including collecting matchbooks,
21photography and film developing, building model railroads,
22reading and completing crossword puzzles, and video gaming;

1due to his sense of adventure and love for the outdoors, he
2became a private pilot and enjoyed sharpening his target
3shooting skills; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Davis was a very family-oriented man known
5as a bit of homebody later in life who showed kindness through
6his love of pets and donating to charities; he was a big fan of
7the Chicago Bears and always enjoyed a fresh baked loaf of
8bread; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Davis was preceded in death by his parents;
10his brother, William Davis; and his sister, Daphene Sweeney;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Davis is survived by his daughter, Renee
13(Curt) Afdahl; his granddaughters, Dreeyan (Ryan) Hughes and
14Jorheene Spradlin; his great-granddaughter, Brynleigh Hughes;
15his siblings, Walter J. (Sally) Davis and Shirley H. (Bob)
16Hayes; his stepchildren, Tara, Tim, and Tom; and several
17nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Duane John Davis and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
