SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is important and appropriate to honor the men
3and women of the Illinois State Police Division of Patrol for
4their contributions to improving public safety; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Trooper Frank R. Dunbar joined the Illinois State
6Police on October 28, 1957, and he was assigned to District 13
7in DuQuoin; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was killed in an automobile
9accident while patrolling Route 37, north of Benton, on May
1014, 1972; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was the first state trooper in 26
12years to be killed in the line of duty and the first to be
13killed in a patrol car accident in Southern Illinois; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar's service to and sacrifice for the
15people of Illinois should never be forgotten; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
18REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois
19Route 37 north of the City of Benton and south of Lake Benton
20Road as the "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial Highway"; and be

2    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
3is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
4State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
5giving notice of the name "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial
6Highway"; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Trooper Dunbar and the Secretary of
9the Illinois Department of Transportation.
