| Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Defines "amniotic fluid embolism". Provides that the Department of Public Health shall undertake a public educational campaign to bring broad public awareness to communities across this State on amniotic fluid embolism, risk factors, and the importance of early recognition and appropriate management. Provides that the Department shall develop and make available information to physicians and other health care professionals regarding early detection and management of amniotic fluid embolism. Provides that the Department shall publish information about amniotic fluid embolism on the Department's Internet website. Effective immediately. |

1 | | AN ACT concerning health. |
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
4 | | Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and |
5 | | Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is |
6 | | amended by adding Section 2310-735 as follows: |
7 | | (20 ILCS 2310/2310-735 new) |
8 | | Sec. 2310-735. Public educational effort on amniotic fluid |
9 | | embolism. |
10 | | (a) As used in this Section, "amniotic fluid embolism" |
11 | | means a rare obstetric emergency in which amniotic fluid, |
12 | | fetal cells, hair or other debris enters the maternal |
13 | | bloodstream leading to cardiovascular collapse, respiratory |
14 | | failure and disseminated intravascular coagulation. |
15 | | (b) The Department shall undertake a public educational |
16 | | campaign to bring broad public awareness to communities across |
17 | | this State on amniotic fluid embolism, risk factors, and the |
18 | | importance of early recognition and appropriate management. |
19 | | (c) The Department shall develop and make available to |
20 | | physicians and other health care professionals information |
21 | | regarding early detection and management of amniotic fluid |
22 | | embolism. |
