2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia | ||||||
4 | A. "Pat" Mullins Kenny, who passed away on August 31, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Pat Kenny, the daughter of Dr. Patrick Mullins | ||||||
6 | and Mary (Mae) Cagney, was born in Bawtry, England on May 25, | ||||||
7 | 1940; she and her family eventually emigrated to the United | ||||||
8 | States, settling in the Washington Heights area of New York | ||||||
9 | City; she married John Kenny at St. Elizabeth's Church on | ||||||
10 | September 1, 1962, and they eventually settled in Peoria, | ||||||
11 | where they raised their children; after John's passing in | ||||||
12 | 2004, she moved to Springfield; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Pat Kenny held a multifaceted career; she began | ||||||
14 | the monthly newspaper West Bluff Word in her dining room; she | ||||||
15 | was a devoted Democrat and worked in local Democratic | ||||||
16 | politics; she managed the U.S. Census office in 1980; she had a | ||||||
17 | very successful career in real estate, which she often | ||||||
18 | operated like a charity by giving back her commission to the | ||||||
19 | buyer or seller, claiming they needed it more than she did; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Pat Kenny was involved in historic preservation, | ||||||
21 | a book club, the garden walk, and numerous other activities; | ||||||
22 | and |

1 | WHEREAS, Pat Kenny preferred wearing her signature purple | ||||||
2 | from head to toe; she loved decorating and entertaining, and | ||||||
3 | she often hosted large parties, including her famous Oscar | ||||||
4 | parties; she also opened her home to anyone who needed a roof | ||||||
5 | over their head; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Pat Kenny was a lifelong teetotaler and a devout | ||||||
7 | Catholic; she was known for being honest, frank, contrary, | ||||||
8 | extravagant, cosmopolitan, indomitable, resilient, | ||||||
9 | hardheaded, and extraordinarily kind; she will be remembered | ||||||
10 | for providing her progeny with the ability to pursue their | ||||||
11 | goals without caring what anyone thinks, a zest for living, | ||||||
12 | and a well-earned sense of humor; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Pat Kenny is survived by her children, Maeve | ||||||
14 | (Seamus) Reilly, Michael (Karla), Deirdre (Dave), Paul | ||||||
15 | (Kella), and Grainne (Mark), and 12 grandchildren; therefore, | ||||||
16 | be it | ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we mourn the passing of Patricia "Pat" Mullins Kenny and | ||||||
20 | extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all | ||||||
21 | who knew and loved her; and be it further |
