HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Head Start on the
4occasion of its 60th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Since its inception in May 1965, Head Start has
6provided health, nutritional, educational, and social services
7for children from birth to age five; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is now in its 60th year of
9implementing Head Start programming, supporting eligible
10children and their families in all 102 counties of the State;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Head Start program has evolved into a
13nationwide force with the mission of meeting the emotional,
14social, health, nutritional, and educational needs of children
15in a community setting; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Children enrolled in Head Start and Early Head
17Start programs are more likely to have positive educational
18outcomes and improved social, emotional, and behavioral
19development; and
 
20    WHEREAS, To achieve these goals, Head Start supports

1family outcomes and well-being by promoting families as
2lifelong educators and learners and fostering positive
3parent-child relationships; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Head Start ensures that parent voices inform
5policy and believes that family engagement and participation
6throughout the program is key to strong child outcomes because
7parents and families are a child's first and most influential
8teachers and lifelong advocates; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Head Start is delivering medical, dental, and
10mental health screening, parenting resources, and other social
11and health services, in addition to necessary early education
12services, which prepare these children to compete with their
13peers with more resources; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Head Start connects and partners with local
15schools, local providers of child care, state and local
16preschool initiatives, and other community service providers
17to connect children and families with resources and
18opportunities to promote school readiness and positive
19outcomes; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we congratulate Head Start on its 60th anniversary; and be it

2    RESOLVED, That we encourage all Illinoisans to recognize
3and support the dedicated leadership and staff in their
4communities that make Head Start possible and provide vital
5assistance to Illinoisans in need through educational, health,
6and family support services.
