HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Meghan
4Lynn Harmon of Divernon, formerly of Litchfield, who passed
5away on January 26, 2025; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon was born in Springfield to Robert
7Joseph and Beth (Hermsmeyer) Harmon on December 22, 1983; she
8graduated from Litchfield High School in 2002 and earned
9several degrees, including an Associate Degree in Secondary
10Education from Lincoln Land Community College in 2004, a
11Bachelor of Arts in English in 2006 and a Master of Arts in
12English in 2008, both from the University of Illinois
13Springfield, and a Master of Science in Library and
14Information Science in 2012 from the University of Illinois
15Urbana-Champaign; she married Greg Bishop in Springfield on
16September 17, 2015; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon worked as an adjunct professor at
18Lincoln Land Community College, teaching English and
19humanities; she then served as the local history and genealogy
20reference librarian at the Chatham Area Public Library
21District before taking the position of reference librarian at
22the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, where she
23earned the nickname "Megstar"; she then worked for the

1Illinois Secretary of State at the Illinois State Library as a
2library program specialist; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon had a passion for books, and she
4conducted professional presentations about rare manuscripts
5and how the public can access a wealth of information from
6their local and state libraries; she was involved in the
7Friends of the Chatham Area Public Library, volunteering and
8performing in a decade's worth of murder mystery fundraisers;
9she also enjoyed bonding with her fellow honors students as
10part of the International College Honor Society Phi Theta
11Kappa; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon enjoyed traveling with her husband;
13they made four trips to Iceland, hiked 10 miles of the Alaska
14wilderness, toured many of the national parks in the
15southwest, and explored some of nature's most amazing caves;
16they also enjoyed concerts, dinners, game nights with close
17friends, and holidays with family; when she was not busy
18training for a foot race, kayaking with her husband, or taking
19in arts and culture, she enjoyed home renovation projects; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon was preceded in death by her
21maternal grandparents, Carl and Joyce (Satterlee) Hermsmeyer,
22and paternal grandfather, William Harmon; and

1    WHEREAS, Meghan Harmon is survived by her husband, Greg;
2her parents; her brother, Kyle R. Harmon; her paternal
3grandmother, Margaret Harmon; her four-legged daughter figure,
4Pause the Cat; the Honors Girls, Biz, Adrienne, Tiffer, and
5Meesa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and
6nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we mourn the passing of Meghan Lynn Harmon and extend our
10sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
11and loved her; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Meghan Harmon as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
