HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and
3Prevention (CDC), one in seven women have trouble getting
4pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The World Health Organization (WHO) and the
6American Medical Association (AMA) define infertility as a
7disease; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Infertility affects women and men equally and
9does not discriminate based on race, religion, sexual
10orientation, marital status, or socioeconomic level; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The LGBTQ community also faces challenges when
12building their families; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Some people become infertile due to a medical
14treatment for another condition, most commonly chemotherapy or
15radiation for cancer; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Family building options include adoption and
17medical treatment such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and
18third-party reproduction; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Cost and lack of insurance coverage are barriers

1for many in our State who wish to access the family building
2options they need; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Raising awareness of infertility and the barriers
4faced by the family building community is the first step to
5removing these barriers; and
 
6    WHEREAS, It is imperative to support the volunteers,
7health care professionals, and members of the infertility and
8family building community; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we declare the week of April 20 through April 26, 2025 as
12Infertility Awareness Week in Illinois to help increase public
13awareness of the need to support individuals with infertility.
