HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the importance
3of higher education as a vital component of workforce
4development, economic growth, and personal advancement; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Many students in Illinois balance professional
6responsibilities and family obligations during the day, making
7evening education programs essential to their academic and
8career progress; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Night courses and programs at Illinois colleges
10and universities provide crucial opportunities for
11non-traditional students, working adults, and career changers
12to pursue degrees and further their education without
13sacrificing their employment; and
 
14    WHEREAS, These programs offer pathways for students to
15build real-world skills and enhance their professional
16experience while continuing to contribute to the State's
17workforce and economy; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The availability of night courses expands access
19to education, promotes workforce readiness, and strengthens
20Illinois' economic competitiveness; and

1    WHEREAS, Budgetary cuts and program cancellations threaten
2the continuation of these vital educational opportunities,
3placing undue barriers on students seeking flexible learning
4options; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we express our strong support for the continued offering and
8expansion of night courses and programs at Illinois colleges
9and universities; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we urge higher education institutions and
11governing bodies to prioritize and protect night programs from
12budgetary cuts or elimination; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14delivered to the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the
15Illinois Community College Board to share with the presidents
16of public and private colleges and universities throughout
17Illinois.
