HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Calhoun High School
4girls volleyball team, the Warriors, on winning the 2024-2025
5Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Girls
6Volleyball State Championship for the first time in school
7history; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Warriors first achieved victory against
9Cissna Park Senior High School 25-16, 25-23 in the State
10Semifinals; the team then defeated Stockton High School 25-17,
1125-16 in the State Finals, despite both sets being tied 10-10
12at one point; the team made a number of memorable plays in the
13process, including senior Joy Hurley leading the team with 10
14kills, senior Kate Zipprich making six kills and five solo
15blocks, and junior Stella Gress leading with 12 digs; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Warriors' success marks the first time the
17team has won the State Super-Sectionals and the State Finals;
18in doing so, the team secured a triple crown for Calhoun High
19School, making it the first public school in Illinois to
20attain state championships across three sports in girls
21volleyball, basketball (2015, 2016), and softball (2016); the
22team also broke a school record with its stellar 39-2 record
23this season; and

1    WHEREAS, The Warriors are led by Head Coach Melissa
2Zipprich, Assistant Coach Ann Gilman, and Team Manager Grace
3Hurley; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Warriors include sophomores Gabby Hurley,
5Lucy Hurley, Lilly Pelletier, and Annie Wilson, juniors Anabel
6Eilerman, Stella Gress, Sadie Kiel, Carly Pohlman, Emma Rose,
7Leila Schulte, and Mary Squier, and seniors Audrey Gilman,
8Josie Hoagland, Joy Hurley, Abby Johnes, State Final
9All-Tournament Athlete Lacy Pohlman, Caydence Sievers, and
10State Final MVP Kate Zipprich, who broke the state record for
11most blocks in a state championship match; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Warriors' historic season and its players'
13achievements, concluding with a dominant performance at the
14IHSA Class 1A Girls Volleyball State Final Tournament, have
15brought joy to players' families, friends, school, and
16community; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we congratulate the Calhoun High School girls volleyball team,
20the Warriors, on winning the 2024-2025 Illinois High School
21Association (IHSA) Class 1A Conference Girls Volleyball State
22Championship for the first time in school history, leading

1Calhoun High School to become the first public high school in
2Illinois to obtain a triple crown; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
4presented to Head Coach Melissa Zipprich, Assistant Coach Ann
5Gilman, and members of the Calhoun High School girls
6volleyball team as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
