2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bradley |
4 | | L. "Brad" Phegley of Shelbyville, who passed away on December |
5 | | 6, 2024; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley was born to Jack Adrian and D. |
7 | | Kathryn (Alday) Phegley in Shelbyville on April 10, 1957; he |
8 | | graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1975, and he |
9 | | furthered his education by attaining an associate's degree in |
10 | | criminal justice from Lake Land College; he served in the U.S. |
11 | | Army; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley served his community as a law |
13 | | enforcement officer in the Illinois State Police for 28 years, |
14 | | as a deputy sheriff for Shelby County, as a chief deputy |
15 | | coroner for eight years, and then as coroner for four years; |
16 | | and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley was an active member of Windsor |
18 | | Christian Church, Altamont Masonic Lodge #533, and the |
19 | | Shelbyville Horseshoe Club; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley was an avid adventurer, outdoorsman, |
21 | | and sports fan; he was a licensed pilot, a certified scuba |

1 | | diver, and a skilled hunter, fisherman, and camper; he had a |
2 | | myriad of other interests, including beekeeping, pickleball, |
3 | | and tending to his hobby farm, and he loyally supported the |
4 | | Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Bulls, and the |
5 | | Chicago Blackhawks; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley was a beloved partner, father, |
7 | | grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle whose adventurous spirit |
8 | | matched his kindness and his ability to make a lasting impact |
9 | | on his community; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley was preceded in death by his |
11 | | parents; his brother, Jack Phegley; and his brother-in-law, |
12 | | Mike Maretti; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Brad Phegley is survived by his son, Brent |
14 | | Phegley; his sister, Debbie Maretti; his significant other, |
15 | | Michelle "Shellie" Weber; his sister-in-law, Barb Phegley; his |
16 | | grandchildren, Kaylee (Austin) Binnion and Jack Phegley; his |
17 | | nieces and nephews, Jason (Carrie) Maretti, Krista (Ryan) |
18 | | Hendrix, Lori Ruot, and Angela (Greg) Crowe; and his |
19 | | great-nieces and great-nephews, Haley, Emily, Kelsey, Kyle, |
20 | | Emma, Chase, Trey, Ryan, Kathryn, and Sophie; therefore, be it |

22 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
