SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Mary Lou "Doll" Glover, who passed
4away on December 15, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Glover, the daughter of Tommie Lee Harlan
6Sr. and Viola Patterson, was born in Macon, Mississippi on
7August 20, 1938; she committed to her faith at an early age and
8was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Macon,
9where she was an active member; she graduated from Noxubee
10County High School in Mississippi in 1958; she relocated to
11Charleston, South Carolina after high school and then to
12Detroit, Michigan in 1959; she married Andrew Lee Glover; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mary Glover held several positions while working
14at the Navy Exchange, including as supervisor of the Camera
15Department; during her husband's 27-year career in the U.S.
16Navy, she managed the household when he was stationed
17overseas, including taking care of the finances and
18chauffeuring her children to and from school and other
19activities; she also coordinated packing and relocating to
20various states when it was time to move; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mary Glover joined First Baptist Church of North
22Chicago around 1989, where she served as a pastor's aide, a

1member of the Kitchen Committee, and a deaconess; she also
2coordinated the annual Valentine's Day tea and Women's Day
3choir, and she made many beautiful and delicious cakes and
4meals for various church events and other special occasions;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Glover was gifted at gardening, being
7recognized with several Yard of the Month awards, and she was a
8skilled seamstress who participated in many fashion shows and
9designed her daughter's wedding dress; she also loved
10photography, cooking, and cake decorating; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Glover valued her family above everything
12else, and she was known for her dynamic smile and laugh; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mary Glover was preceded in death by her parents;
14her brothers, Tommie Lee Harlan Jr., Otha L. Harlan Sr., Bobby
15Harlan, and Leon Harlan; and her sisters, Clara (Willie)
16Oliver, Ollie (John) Harlan, and Earlene Harlan; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mary Glover is survived by her husband, Andrew;
18her children, Andrew (Jan) Glover and Lorraine (Rev. Rick)
19Harris; two grandchildren; her sisters, Pecola Harlan, Marion
20"Mildred" (Earl) Booker, and Bonnie (Julius) Beck; her
21brothers, Levarn (Bonnie) Harlan, Clarence (Rosie) Harlan, and
22Ernest "Red" (Orlena) Harlan; her sister-in-law, Gaynell

1(Leon) Harlan; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
2and cousins; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Mary Lou "Doll" Glover and extend our sincere condolences to
6her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Mary Glover as an expression of our
10deepest sympathy.
