SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are sadden to
3learn of the death of Matthew R. "Matt" Verde, who passed away
4on November 24, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Matt Verde was born in Melrose Park on September
65, 1975; he graduated from Immaculate Conception High School,
7now known as Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep, in Elmhurst
8in 1993; he served in the U.S. Marine Corps with distinction,
9through which he spent time in Japan and Russia before being
10honorably discharged; he married Jennifer Verde on April 24,
112009; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Matt Verde pursued a career in the restaurant
13industry due to his passion for hospitality and culinary
14excellence, beginning his career at Rock Bottom Restaurant &
15Brewery and continuing at The Capital Grille and U.S. Foods;
16he opened his own restaurant, Neat Kitchen & Bar, in Westmont,
17and he had recently opened a second location in Oswego; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Matt Verde gave back generously to the Westmont
19community through fundraisers and donations, and he quickly
20became a key figure in the Oswego business community; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Matt Verde's greatest joy was being a father to

1his children, Austin and Savannah, and he enjoyed cheering on
2his son at football games and his daughter at cheerleading
3events; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Matt Verde touched the lives of everyone he met
5with his warm smile and open heart; he will be remembered for
6his generous spirit, friendly demeanor, and selfless nature;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Matt Verde was the husband of Jennifer; the
9father of Austin and Savannah; the son of Robert (Amelia)
10Verde and Teresa Verde; the brother of Sara (fiance, Russell
11Mowry) Falk, Timothy (Jill) Verde, and Beth Smith; the
12stepbrother of T.J. (Lisa) Holgado; the son-in-law of Janet
13(Lou) Wright and Mick (Peggy) Skott; the brother-in-law of
14Adam (Rachel) Skott, Lisa (Chris) Sabol, Kelly (Joe) Zavala,
15Michael (Christina) Wright, and Cody Wright; a nephew to his
16aunts and uncles; an uncle to his many nieces and nephews; and
17a friend to many; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Matthew R. "Matt" Verde and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
