SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dr. John Segreti of Oak Park, who
4passed away on June 16, 2024 at the age of 69; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti was born to Giuseppe and
6Giuseppina Segreti in Carolei, Italy on August 5, 1954; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti was raised in Chicago and became
8a U.S. citizen after high school; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti was the valedictorian of
10Cathedral High School and graduated from Loyola University and
11Rush Medical College; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti married Jeanne Martinez in 1980,
13and they moved to Oak Park, where they lived for 30 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti specialized in infectious
15disease medicine as the epidemiologist for Rush University; he
16served as president of the Rush medical staff, as editor of the
17medical journal Private Practice Infectious Disease, and as a
18member of the medical team for the Chicago White Sox during the
19COVID-19 outbreak; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti spent his career traveling and
2lecturing in many countries around the world; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti enjoyed running, boxing, and
4ballroom dancing; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti loved coaching his children in
6sports, including his daughter in soccer and his sons in youth
7baseball; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti was passionate about researching
9bone and joint infections, antibiotic utilization, bloodstream
10infections, and hospital acquired infections, publishing more
11than 24 medical articles; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. John Segreti is survived by his wife, Jeanne;
13his children, Dania Ryczek, Giancarlo (James Meurer), and
14Stefan Segreti; his grandchildren, Ava Ryczek and Liam Ryczek;
15his sisters, Theresa (Tom) Foutts and Pia (Robert) Mack; his
16brothers, Frank (Anita) Segreti and Fabio (Debbie) Segreti;
17his sisters-in-law, Ida Segreti and Sandra Martinez; and many
18other family members; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Dr. John Segreti and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Dr. John Segreti as an expression of
