2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Hormaz Minoocher Vania, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on March 3, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania, the son of Minoocher and Manijeh | ||||||
6 | Vania, was born on December 24, 1934; he attended Coyne | ||||||
7 | Electrical School in Chicago; he received a bachelor's degree | ||||||
8 | in electrical and mechanical engineering from Indiana | ||||||
9 | Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana; he earned a | ||||||
10 | Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Southern | ||||||
11 | Illinois University Carbondale; he also studied music at | ||||||
12 | Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and Sangamon State | ||||||
13 | University, known today as the University of Illinois | ||||||
14 | Springfield (UIS); and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania founded Vania Engineering, Inc. in | ||||||
16 | 1967, where he served as president and principal electrical, | ||||||
17 | mechanical, and environmental professional engineer; his | ||||||
18 | company undertook a number of noteworthy projects, including | ||||||
19 | working on the Lincoln Tomb, the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, | ||||||
20 | LLCC, and UIS; he also taught engineering at LLCC and UIS; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania and his wife, Yasmin H. Vania, were | ||||||
22 | founders and members of the Zoroastrian Association of |

1 | Metropolitan Chicago, founding members of the World | ||||||
2 | Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce (WZCC), and observers to the | ||||||
3 | drafting of the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of | ||||||
4 | North America (FEZANA) constitution; they were also donors to | ||||||
5 | the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was a Master Mason of Tyrian Masonic | ||||||
7 | Lodge #333, and he was the recipient of its 50 Years of | ||||||
8 | Faithful Service Award; he was a founder of Springfield's | ||||||
9 | Ethnic Festival and various Asian and Indian Associations; he | ||||||
10 | was an honorary life member of the National Republican Party; | ||||||
11 | and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was a skilled accordion and piano | ||||||
13 | player who delighted many with his passion for music; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was always cheerful and had an | ||||||
15 | unending sense of humor; he will be remembered as a noble, | ||||||
16 | gracious, brilliant, and caring person; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was preceded in death by his | ||||||
18 | brother, Rustom Vania, and his sister-in-law, Gulzarine Vania; | ||||||
19 | and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
21 | children, Natalie, Ivan, and Rustomji; his brother, Luke |

1 | (Ginny) Vania; his sister, Kamal R. (Rohinton) Tengra; his | ||||||
2 | son-in-law, Rusi D. Gandhi; his daughter-in-law, Crystal | ||||||

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | Hormaz Minoocher Vania and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
7 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
8 | further | ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Hormaz Vania as an expression of our | ||||||
11 | deepest sympathy. |
