HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4President James Earl "Jimmy" Carter Jr., 39th President of the
5United States, who passed away on December 29, 2024; and
 
6    WHEREAS, President Carter was born on October 1, 1924, and
7he dedicated his life to peace, democracy, and humanitarian
8efforts, leaving an indelible mark on the world through his
9leadership and service; and
 
10    WHEREAS, President Carter's early political career
11included service in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967
12and as Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975, demonstrating a
13steadfast commitment to the citizens of his state; and
 
14    WHEREAS, President Carter served as the 39th President of
15the United States from 1977 to 1981, during which time he
16established the United States Department of Energy and the
17Department of Education, and he created a national energy
18policy focused on conservation and innovation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, After leaving office in 1981, President Carter
20established The Carter Center in 1982 to advance human rights,
21promote democracy, and combat global health challenges,

1efforts that earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Throughout the years, President Carter undertook
3peace negotiations, election monitoring, and initiatives to
4eradicate infectious diseases, profoundly impacting the lives
5of millions worldwide; and
 
6    WHEREAS, President Carter's dedication to service extended
7to the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity, where he
8played a key role in building homes and improving living
9conditions for over 59 million people globally, embodying
10compassion and humility; and
 
11    WHEREAS, President Carter's legacy as a statesman,
12humanitarian, and advocate for social justice will inspire
13generations to strive for a more equitable and peaceful world;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, President Carter passed away peacefully on
16Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 100, following a life
17devoted to public service and global betterment; and
 
18    WHEREAS, President Carter's passing marks the end of a
19remarkable chapter in American and global history, and his
20contributions will continue to shape lives and communities for
21years to come; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of President James Earl "Jimmy" Carter,
439th President of the United States, and extend our sincere
5condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
6him; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we honor the life and legacy of President
8Carter, and we express our profound gratitude for his lifelong
9service to humanity; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the Carter family as a token of our respect and
12recognition of President Carter's extraordinary life and
13enduring contributions to the world.
