HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leonard
4Elias Etlinger, Ph.D., who passed away on December 6, 2024;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger was born on February 29, 1948;
7he received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts
8Institute of Technology (MIT) and his Ph.D. from Southern
9Illinois University Carbondale; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger spent most of his career working
11as a professor at Chicago State University before serving as
12Dean of Continuing Education, retiring as a vice president 27
13years of later; he then served as Director of Grants and
14Contracts at the City Colleges of Chicago; he was also a
15published author who frequently contributed to the Chicago
16Tribune; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger earned a black belt in judo and
18loved playing racquetball and tennis, and he was skilled at
19barbecuing turkey; he was interested in gadgets and technology
20and was an avid science fiction reader; he enjoyed traveling,
21including to England, Greece, Russia, Canada, and all over the
22U.S.; and

1    WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger was known as a generous and
2unique soul who had an impact on many lives throughout his
3career; he truly valued his family and friendships, and he was
4regarded as the best father and husband; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger was the husband of Fannie
6(Kachos) Etlinger; the father of Thomas Etlinger and Megan
7Etlinger; the brother of Joseph (Susan) Etlinger and the late
8Stephen Etlinger; the brother-in-law of George (the late
9Janet) Kachos and John Kachos; the uncle of Ari (Amanda)
10Etlinger, Benjamin (Stacey) Etlinger, Matthew Etlinger, Sheila
11(Joe) Guinta, Stephanie Kachos, Don Carlos, the late Michael
12(Mary) Carlos, and Anthony (Marisol) Carlos; and the
13great-uncle, cousin, and friend of many; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Leonard Elias Etlinger, Ph.D. and
17extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
18who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Leonard Etlinger as an expression
21of our deepest sympathy.
