SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Margaret R. "Margy" Parcells, who passed 
4away on January 19, 2020; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Margy Parcells was born to Murdo and Margaret Ross 
6on August 23, 1930; she was raised in Kenilworth and attended 
7The Joseph Sears School, New Trier High School, Purdue 
8University, and the University of Iowa, where she graduated in 
91952; that same year, she married her high school sweetheart, 
10Bruce Marsh; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, As a campaign volunteer, Margy Parcells was   
12recognized for her communication and organizational skills, 
13strong work ethic, and tireless energy, resulting ultimately in 
14her being drafted to run for local elective office; she was 
15elected Northfield Township Clerk in 1976, Northfield Township 
16Supervisor in 1981, and State Representative for the 57th 
17District in 1984; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Among the many causes that Margy Parcells 
19championed in the Illinois General Assembly, animal rights, 
20reproductive rights, and fiscal responsibility were some the 
21most important to her; she was a strong proponent of term 
22limits and voluntarily stepped down in 1994, having never lost

1an election; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Margy Parcells was appointed Deputy Auditor 
3General of the State of Illinois and served in that office 
4until her retirement in 1998; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Margy Parcells was involved with numerous local 
6organizations, including many years of service as a Trustee of 
7the Village of Northfield; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Margy Parcells was energetic and upbeat with a 
9light-up-the-room smile, behind which lay genuine kindness and 
10care for all who came within the circle of her warmth, 
11including her many well-loved dogs; some of her favorite 
12hobbies were tennis and jogging; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Margy Parcells is survived by her children, 
14Marilyn Marsh (Jay Elwood), Bob Marsh (Debbie Winchester), and 
15Greg Marsh (Jennifer Welsh), and her grandchildren, Augie and 
16Natalie Marsh; therefore, be it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL 
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
19Margaret R. "Margy" Parcells and extend our sincere condolences 
20to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
