SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of John C. Zickus, who passed away on June 
418, 2018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, John Zickus was born in Waukegan to John and 
6Monica (Masilionas) Zickus on October 15, 1937; he married 
7Diane Murtha on January 14, 1961; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, At a young age, John Zickus was apprenticed as a 
9union carpenter and became a fine craftsman, known for his 
10skill and attention to detail; he joined the Waukegan Fire 
11Department  in 1964, where he spent 26 years; he retired as a 
12lieutenant and assistant shift commander in 1990; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, John Zickus was proud of his Lithuanian heritage 
14and its language, culture, and hearty food, and  he loved to 
15share it with family and friends on holidays; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Zickus loved fishing for walleye, and his 
17family spent many happy vacations at his favorite spot at  Woman 
18Lake in Longville, Minnesota; he also enjoyed hunting pheasant 
19with his best canine pal, "Misty", for 16 years; his favorite 
20passion was gardening, where he was renown for his abundance of 
21vegetables; and

1    WHEREAS, John Zickus was preceded in death by his parents 
2and his stepfather, John Butkus; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, John Zickus is survived by his wife of 57 years, 
4Diane; his daughters, Karen (Jim) Avery and Monica Zickus; his 
5grandchildren, Adam (Jessica), Alec, and Madison Avery; his 
6great-grandchildren, Lucy Louise Avery; his half-sister, Rose 
7(Jim) Huisel; his nephews, Steven and Jonathon Huisel; his  
8brother-in-law, Denny (Judy) Murtha; his  sister-in-law, Linda 
9Sack; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
12John C. Zickus and extend our sincere condolences to his 
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
14further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to  the family of  John Zickus as an expression of our 
17deepest sympathy.
