1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Clement P. Cunningham M.D. of Rock |
4 | | Island, who passed away on September 2, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham was born in Rock Island to John J. |
6 | | and Mary Ann Boyle Cunningham on April 13, 1922; he graduated |
7 | | from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa in 1942 and served |
8 | | with the U.S. Army during World War II; he graduated from the |
9 | | Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 1945 |
10 | | and completed his internship at Cook County Hospital from 1945 |
11 | | to 1946; he married Florence McDonald at the St. Catherine of |
12 | | Siena Catholic Church in Oak Park on July 12, 1947; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham served on the medical staff at St. |
14 | | Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, serving as president in |
15 | | 1959; he continued on the medical staff at Franciscan Hospital, |
16 | | currently UPH–Trinity Rock Island, serving nine years on the |
17 | | board of trustees as well as nine years as a member and officer |
18 | | of the board of trustees at the Robert Young Mental Health |
19 | | Center; he was also a member and past president of the Rock |
20 | | Island County Medical Society and a physician member of the |
21 | | Rock Island County Public Health Clinic, treating the indigent |
22 | | of the county; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham was a charter member of the St. |
2 | | Pius X Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic |
3 | | minister; he was also a member of the St. Vincent De Paul |
4 | | Society, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island, the |
5 | | Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus, the Edward J. Bader |
6 | | Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and the Moline |
7 | | American Legion Post 246; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham received papal honors from His |
9 | | Holiness John Paul II and was installed as a Knight of the |
10 | | Order of St. Gregory; he also received the Thomas More Award |
11 | | from the National Council of Catholic Men; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham was preceded in death by his wife, |
13 | | Florence; his parents; and his siblings, Judge John Cunningham, |
14 | | Dr. Glen D. Cunningham, Madge Bernbrook, Cecelia Cunningham, |
15 | | and Rev. Monsignor Ambrose Cunningham; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cunningham is survived by his children, |
17 | | Patrick (Jane) Cunningham M.D., Gregory (Janaan) Cunningham, |
18 | | Kathleen Yeager, and James Cunningham; his grandchildren, |
19 | | Brian (Julie), Casey, and Paul Cunningham and Daniel, Charlene, |
20 | | and Cory Yeager; and his great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Alex |
21 | | Cunningham; therefore, be it

22 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |

1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
2 | | Clement P. Cunningham M.D., and extend our sincere condolences |
3 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
4 | | it further
|
5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of Dr. Cunningham as an expression of |
7 | | our deepest sympathy.
