2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dr. Carl Peter Mattioda of Spring Valley, | ||||||
4 | formerly of Streator, who passed away on June 2, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Mattioda was born in Spring Valley to Joseph | ||||||
6 | and Mollie (Muzzarelli) Mattioda on August 20, 1929; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from St. Bede Academy in 1947, St. Bede Junior | ||||||
8 | College in 1949, and then Loyola Medical School; he married | ||||||
9 | Alice Marie Crisp in Hagerstown, Maryland on May 4, 1957; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Mattioda established his OB/GYN practice in | ||||||
11 | Streator in 1963; for the next 52 years, he compassionately | ||||||
12 | cared for the health of women and brought thousands of babies | ||||||
13 | into the world; he was known to be very compassionate; in | ||||||
14 | reference to being a doctor, he noted, "There's a lot more to | ||||||
15 | medicine. Maybe you could help them with problems besides | ||||||
16 | medical just by listening"; he never got tired of hearing a | ||||||
17 | baby's first cry and said, "It was the most exciting moment | ||||||
18 | from the first baby to the last"; he retired on his 86th | ||||||
19 | birthday in August 2015; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dr. Mattioda served in the United States Navy | ||||||
21 | Reserves; he was a longtime former member of St. Anthony's | ||||||
22 | Parish in Streator and was currently a member of the Nativity |

1 | of Our Lord Parish in Spring Valley; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Mattioda enjoyed playing solitaire and | ||||||
3 | watching sports; he was a dedicated fan of the University of | ||||||
4 | Notre Dame football; he was devoted to reciting the rosary | ||||||
5 | every day; he loved his faith, his family, and being a | ||||||
6 | dedicated physician; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Dr. Mattioda was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
8 | and his wife, Alice; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Mattioda is survived by his daughters, Maureen | ||||||
10 | (James Sr.) Polster and Molliann (Jody) Gualandri; his son, | ||||||
11 | Mark (Mary) Mattioda; his grandchildren, Courtney (Edward) | ||||||
12 | Ator, Carlee (Matthew) Frkol, James (fiancee Paige Polzen) | ||||||
13 | Polster Jr., Paul, Joseph, Kyle, and Kurt Mattioda, Christopher | ||||||
14 | (Nicole) Mattioda, Elizabeth (Jeff) Stenoish, Dr. Katie (Ryan) | ||||||
15 | Crawley, Joseph (Elizabeth) Gualandri, and Michael and Anna | ||||||
16 | Gualandri; his great-grandchildren, Alice and Jack Ator, | ||||||
17 | Shaylee, Luke, and Dominic Mattioda, Abigail and Emma Stenoish, | ||||||
18 | and Ezekiel, Lillian, and Ignatius Gualandri; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Dr. Carl Peter Mattioda and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
22 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
