2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Patrick Dooley of Oak Park, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on January 6, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley was born in Minnesota and raised in | ||||||
6 | the Minneapolis suburb of Richfield; he attended seminary and | ||||||
7 | became a Diocesan priest as a young man; he left the priesthood | ||||||
8 | after about ten years and moved to Chicago; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley was, at one time, an activist for | ||||||
10 | the American Federation of State, County and Municipal | ||||||
11 | Employees and worked for the Department of Children and Family | ||||||
12 | Services, where he inspected daycare centers to ensure that | ||||||
13 | they were being run properly; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley had a long and varied commitment to | ||||||
15 | public service and volunteerism; he volunteered at the | ||||||
16 | Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest's cemetery walk | ||||||
17 | and house walk; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley supported the efforts of the | ||||||
19 | Democratic Party of Oak Park, especially during the 2012 | ||||||
20 | re-election campaign of President Barack Obama, taking long bus | ||||||
21 | rides to Iowa to canvass for the President; and

1 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley also lent his talents to the Frank | ||||||
2 | Lloyd Wright Home and Studio for some twenty years; he was | ||||||
3 | described as someone who was a "very giving person" and one who | ||||||
4 | "cared about people"; his friends at the Home and Studio | ||||||
5 | remembered him as that "Irish uncle that you would sit down | ||||||
6 | with and listen to and talk to and exchange pleasantries with"; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley was known to be a soft-spoken, | ||||||
9 | helpful man and a dedicated foster parent who enjoyed | ||||||
10 | frequenting ethnic restaurants; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Patrick Dooley is survived by his brother, | ||||||
12 | Michael, and legions of friends and admirers; therefore, be it
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Patrick Dooley and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
16 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
17 | further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Patrick Dooley as an expression of | ||||||
20 | our deepest sympathy.
