2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Richard J. Short of McHenry, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on March 24, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Richard Short was born in Chicago to James H. and | ||||||
6 | Patricia (Nuccio) Short on February 22, 1931; he married | ||||||
7 | Barbara J. Carnagio at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica in Chicago | ||||||
8 | on September 6, 1952; he enlisted in the Illinois Air National | ||||||
9 | Guard and he was stationed at the U.S. Air Force Base in | ||||||
10 | Langley, Virginia; he was a gunner and an instructor in the | ||||||
11 | 108th Bomb Squadron until 1952; after serving, he attended the | ||||||
12 | John Marshall Law School and was admitted to the Illinois and | ||||||
13 | Federal Bar in 1957; in 1960, he received a Doctor of | ||||||
14 | Jurisprudence; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Richard Short was an attorney for over 60 years, | ||||||
16 | first in Chicago, and then in McHenry County; in 1960, he was | ||||||
17 | appointed to the Cook County Board of Tax Appeals; in 1961, he | ||||||
18 | was appointed as Technical Advisor to the Illinois Department | ||||||
19 | of Revenue; he gained national prominence as an authority on | ||||||
20 | state and local tax law and later served as an Assistant | ||||||
21 | Attorney General; and

22 | WHEREAS, Richard Short served as Chairman of the McHenry |

| |||||||
1 | County Democratic Party, President of the McHenry Chamber of | ||||||
2 | Commerce, and Village Prosecutor for several villages; he was | ||||||
3 | past president of the West Suburban Bar Association; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Richard Short was a member of the McHenry County | ||||||
5 | Sheriff's Merit Commission, the Johnsburg Lions Club, the St. | ||||||
6 | John's Endowment Society, the Harmony Snowmobile Club, the | ||||||
7 | Lakes Region American Legion Post, the Woodland Green | ||||||
8 | Homeowners Association, and the Illinois Bar Association; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Richard Short was an avid boater; he held a U.S. | ||||||
10 | Coast Guard License and was always ready to take the boat out | ||||||
11 | onto the water; he also enjoyed seeing his grandchildren, | ||||||
12 | cheering on the Chicago Bears, and winter vacations in Naples | ||||||
13 | and Marco Island, Florida; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Richard Short was preceded in death by his | ||||||
15 | parents; his sisters, Jeanne Hill and Marianne Mazzuca; and his | ||||||
16 | son-in-law, Patrick Rorig; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Richard Short is survived by his wife of 65 years, | ||||||
18 | Barbara; his children, Richard (Lisa) Short, Cynthia Rorig, and | ||||||
19 | Patrick (Gretchen) Short; and his grandchildren, Nicole, Tara, | ||||||
20 | Kevin, Terence, Sean, Collin, and Carter; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
2 | Richard J. Short, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
3 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
4 | further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Richard Short as an expression of | ||||||
7 | our deepest sympathy.
