|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Minnie Mae Alford, who passed away on |
4 | | March 15, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Alford was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to |
6 | | Mr. and Mrs. Willie Campbell on May 1, 1915; after the death of |
7 | | her mother, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she was |
8 | | raised by her aunt; she committed to her faith at the Bostic |
9 | | Temple COGIC with the late Bishop Bostic; she married her first |
10 | | husband when she was 15; later, her marriage dissolved and she |
11 | | moved to Chicago, where she met a preacher, James B. Alford; |
12 | | they were married for over 50 years, and she supported him as |
13 | | the First Lady of the Progressive COGIC of Maywood for 42 |
14 | | years; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Alford did not let anything stop her from |
16 | | serving Progressive; she was a member of the Sewing Circle |
17 | | Ministry, where they made quilts and blankets for people n |
18 | | need; she also made drapes for the church and chair covers for |
19 | | the seats; she was a member of the Senior Choir and served as |
20 | | one of the choir directors and one of the main soloists; she |
21 | | coordinated the Radio Choir's travel for annual trips to St. |
22 | | Louis, Missouri, concerts, and events; she sold the most |
23 | | tickets for the Radio Choir's annual concert; she also played |

1 | | the piano and was a member of Progressive's first band; she was |
2 | | the Director of the Group Ministry and the main financial |
3 | | supporter for the "Rain on Us" project; she counseled those who |
4 | | needed help and nursed those who were sick; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Alford was known as the "queen of |
6 | | hospitality," and she often had unexpected guests stop by the |
7 | | house to have dinner with her family; she prepared three meals |
8 | | a day for traveling Evangelists, who also stayed at her home |
9 | | while they conducted revivals; she made everyone feel welcome |
10 | | and happy; she also provided spiritual and moral support to her |
11 | | husband and her children; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Alford was preceded in death by her |
13 | | husband, Dr. James Alford Sr.; her son, Sunny; and her |
14 | | daughter, Beatrice; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Alford is survived by her sons, James |
16 | | (Carolyn) Alford Jr., Perry (Erna) Alford Sr., and Apostle |
17 | | Donald (Gloria) Alford Sr.; her grandchildren, Perry (Carmen) |
18 | | Alford Jr., Keisha Sally, Alita (Mike) Abron, Sean Alford, |
19 | | James (Sonia) Alford III, Donald (Rasheeda) Alford II, Stephon |
20 | | Alford, Brianna Alford, Venevia Tate, and Jermaine Tate; her |
21 | | great-grandchildren, Taneisha "NuNu" Caldwell, Brittnee |
22 | | Alford, Jeniece Alford, James Alford IV, Keyona Carter, Tiya |
23 | | Carter, Xzavier Carter, Perry Alford III, Dajia Alford, Donald |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
6 | | Minnie Mae Alford and extend our sincere condolences to her |
7 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
8 | | further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Minnie Alford as an expression of |
11 | | our deepest sympathy.
