2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of State Senator William L. "Bill" O'Daniel |
4 | | of Mount Vernon, who passed away on November 15, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel was born in Union County, |
6 | | Kentucky to Edward H. and Ola Atlanta (Abel) O'Daniel on |
7 | | December 4, 1923; he served as a paratrooper in the United |
8 | | States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946; he married |
9 | | Norma Hayes on November 10, 1973; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel was a longtime farmer and |
11 | | businessman; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel served as a member of the |
13 | | Illinois House of Representatives from
1974 to 1977 and in the |
14 | | Illinois Senate from 1984 until 2002; he represented the 54th |
15 | | District and served over two decades in the Illinois
General |
16 | | Assembly; during his time in office, he built a
solid |
17 | | reputation as one of the foremost authorities
on agricultural |
18 | | issues in the State; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel was appointed in 1977 by |
20 | | President Jimmy
Carter to serve as state executive director of |
21 | | the
Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of
the |
|

1 | | U.S. Department of Agriculture; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel was a member of the Christian |
3 | | faith; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel was preceded in death by his |
5 | | parents; his first wife, Edith Marie O'Daniel; his son, John E. |
6 | | O'Daniel; his great-grandson,
Nicholas O'Daniel; and his |
7 | | brothers, H.M. and E.H. O'Daniel; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Senator O'Daniel is survived by his wife, Norma; |
9 | | his son, Monte D. (Dell) Pearson; his daughters, JoAnne |
10 | | O'Daniel,
Linda Sue (Ed) Fisher, and Mary Jane Giles; his |
11 | | brother, Robert N. O'Daniel; eight grandchildren; and
14 |
12 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | State Senator William L. "Bill" O'Daniel, and extend our |
16 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
17 | | and loved him; and be it further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Senator O'Daniel as an expression of |
20 | | our deepest sympathy.
