2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Albert L. Dussliere of East Moline, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on October 13, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Al Dussliere was born in Moline to Alois and | ||||||
6 | Martha Callewaert Dussliere on July 21, 1924; he married Lorene | ||||||
7 | Seitz, his high school sweetheart, at St. Mary's Catholic | ||||||
8 | Church in East Moline on September 18, 1946; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Al Dussliere was a staff sergeant in the United | ||||||
10 | States Army Air Corp during World War II; he flew in the waist | ||||||
11 | and tail gunner positions in a B-17 flying fortress and | ||||||
12 | accumulated 35 missions over enemy territories; on his 13th | ||||||
13 | mission, his plane was involved in a midair collision over | ||||||
14 | Bonn, Germany, which forced a belly landing in Luxembourg; on | ||||||
15 | the 14th mission, his plane was hit by sustained flak for over | ||||||
16 | 14 minutes, knocking out engines two and four, which caused an | ||||||
17 | emergency landing in Ghent, Belgium; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Al Dussliere worked in his father's grocery store | ||||||
19 | after he returned from the war; during that time, he was | ||||||
20 | elected as an East Moline Council Member; he served four years | ||||||
21 | and was elected mayor; he was then appointed Postmaster of East | ||||||
22 | Moline and eventually promoted to Director of Customer Services |

1 | at Rock Island Post Office, where he oversaw 102 offices in | ||||||
2 | Iowa and Illinois; he retired from the Post Office in 1984; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Al Dussliere was the former commander of the East | ||||||
4 | Moline Silvis American Veterans, the president of the East | ||||||
5 | Moline Silvis Kiwanis Club, a member of the Illini Hospital | ||||||
6 | Board, a founding member of the Blackhawk Chapter of the | ||||||
7 | Epilepsy Foundation, the president of the 303rd Bomb Group | ||||||
8 | Association, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Anne Parish, the | ||||||
9 | Short Hills Country Club Man of the Year, and a member of the | ||||||
10 | Chamber of Commerce; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Al Dussliere was preceded in death by his | ||||||
12 | grandson, John Smithson; and his brothers, Alois Jr. and | ||||||
13 | Donald; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Al Dussliere is survived by his wife, Lorene; his | ||||||
15 | children, Theresa (Dr. Daniel) Voltz, Philip (Helen) | ||||||
16 | Dussliere, and Steve (Kayla) Dussliere; his grandchildren, | ||||||
17 | Andrew and Conrad Voltz, Heidi (Mitch) Forney, Talisa Dussliere | ||||||
18 | (Josh) Corcoran, and Justin Oden; his great-granddaughter, | ||||||
19 | Elizabeth Forney; and his brother, Lorney (Hattie) Dussliere; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Albert L. Dussliere and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
