2 | | WHEREAS, The United States Congress has let the Children's |
3 | | Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expire; this is the first time |
4 | | in two decades that this was allowed to happen; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, CHIP is a federal health insurance option for |
6 | | working families without access to insurance; now, insurance |
7 | | for more than 100,000 Illinois children remains uncertain; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, CHIP provides prenatal care to over 370,000 |
9 | | pregnant women across the nation; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Last year, Illinois received more than $200 |
11 | | million to fund CHIP; that money will not run out until next |
12 | | year; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, CHIP has helped decrease the number of uninsured |
14 | | children to a record low of 7%; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Children are our State's greatest asset; they must |
16 | | grow up healthy to support our future economy; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, A five-year renewal plan is already drafted; |
18 | | Congress is expected to call it for a vote in the coming weeks; |
