SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Edward P. Smith of Shorewood, who passed 
4away on August 9, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Smith was employed by Downers Grove 
6Township for over 48 years; he began his career as a truck 
7driver and highway maintainer; he was then promoted to foreman; 
8he was elected Downers Grove Township Highway Commissioner in 
91981; he was re-elected six times and served as Highway 
10Commissioner for 28 years; and
  
 


  
11    WHEREAS, Edward Smith was the beloved husband of Josephine 
12(Coolidge) Smith; the loving father of Edward Jr. (Stephanie), 
13Kathryn (James) Buczko, John, David, Peter (Kristen), Wilcott 
14(Stacey), and Donald Smith; the cherished grandfather of 
15Samuel, Jacob, Kaelan, Cleo, Amelia, and Wilcott, the caring 
16brother of the late Donald Smith; the dear brother-in-law of 
17Claude Coolidge, Max (Jean) Coolidge, and Patricia Vasquez, and 
18the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
21Edward P. Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
