2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of James P."Jim" "Papou" Walsh of Joliet, |
4 | | who passed away on March 22, 2017; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, James Walsh was born in Joliet to George and |
6 | | Theresa (Fox) on March 28, 1934; he attended Joliet Township |
7 | | High School, De La Salle Institute in Chicago, and Joliet |
8 | | Junior College; he earned a bachelor's degree in business from |
9 | | Northern Illinois University, and his masters degree in |
10 | | business from the University of Chicago; he was a proud veteran |
11 | | of the United States Army serving his country from 1954 to 1956 |
12 | | before being honorably discharged; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, James Walsh was a member of the All Saints Greek |
14 | | Orthodox Church where he was a past President of the Parish |
15 | | Council; he was a member of the AHEPA Society, the American |
16 | | Legion Post 1080, the Old Timers Baseball Association, the Boy |
17 | | Scouts of America, the Grocers Association, and the Supermarket |
18 | | Operations Instructor at College of DuPage; he also was a guest |
19 | | lecturer at Lewis University and an Instructor of Business at |
20 | | Joliet Junior College; he also served on the High School |
21 | | Distributive Education Advisory Council; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, James Walsh received numerous awards and |
|

1 | | accolades during his career, earning the respect and overall |
2 | | regard of his colleagues; he could be firm, but always fair; if |
3 | | challenged, he could respond in a very wise manner and was |
4 | | always on top of things; he was a natural leader, able to bring |
5 | | out the best in people and inspire them; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, James Walsh showed passionate dedication and |
7 | | enthusiasm for his work with his church; he was a fan of the |
8 | | Chicago White Sox; he did a lot of good things for many people, |
9 | | never seeking recognition; he was gifted with integrity and |
10 | | humility, was a great mentor, philanthropist, and friend; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, James Walsh was preceded in death by his parents, |
12 | | George A. and Theresa; his five brothers, Robert, Donald, Leo, |
13 | | John "Jack", and Fr. David Walsh, O'Carm; and his cherished |
14 | | in-laws, George J. and Helen Passas; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, James Walsh is survived by his wife of 57 years, |
16 | | Margie; his sons, George K. (Edith), and James R. Walsh; his |
17 | | grandchildren, Zakkary Warsaw, Zoe, and Abigail Walsh; his |
18 | | sister-in-law, Margo Passas; and many nieces and nephews; |
19 | | therefore, be it

21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
