2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Jane Miner Harvey of Lake Forest, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 5, 2017 at the age of 94; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jane Harvey was born in Washington, D.C. in 1922; | ||||||
6 | she remembered ice skating in Rock Creek Park as a child, and | ||||||
7 | attending events at the White House where the president | ||||||
8 | personally greeted and strolled among the guests; she moved to | ||||||
9 | Kansas City, Missouri in 1939 when her father, who worked for | ||||||
10 | the IRS, was sent to assist in the effort to shut down the | ||||||
11 | Pendergast organization; she was a 1943 graduate of the | ||||||
12 | University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts in English; while | ||||||
13 | attending a University lecture, she sat down on a chair that | ||||||
14 | collapsed and the young man that leapt up to assist her was her | ||||||
15 | roommate's brother, John Harvey; they married in Kansas City | ||||||
16 | after his return from service in the United States Marine Corps | ||||||
17 | during World War II in 1947; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jane Harvey remained in Kansas City after | ||||||
19 | graduating from the University of Kansas; she worked as the | ||||||
20 | editor of the employee newsletter at Hallmark Cards; she once, | ||||||
21 | while stylishly dressed, stepped into an elevator with J.C. | ||||||
22 | Hall and Norman Rockwell, and Rockwell remarked that it was | ||||||
23 | "just like being in New York City with the models."; she and |

1 | her husband relocated to the Chicago area when her husband | ||||||
2 | joined the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency; she was a resident | ||||||
3 | of Lake Forest since 1962; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Jane Harvey loved to entertain family and friends | ||||||
5 | at her home; she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church | ||||||
6 | of Lake Forest; she took pleasure in researching the genealogy | ||||||
7 | of her family and was a member of the Thomas Minor Society; she | ||||||
8 | worked as an editor in many paid and volunteer positions | ||||||
9 | including the Lake Forest Girl Scouts and PTA; her family grew | ||||||
10 | up reading a re-edited version of the Chicago Tribune as it was | ||||||
11 | her habit to read the paper with a red pen and mark | ||||||
12 | typographical and grammatical errors that she found; after | ||||||
13 | leaving the advertising business, her husband started the mail | ||||||
14 | order business, Golf Day Products, and she put her | ||||||
15 | organizational and editorial talents to work as the Vice | ||||||
16 | President of the company, helping to grow the business from a | ||||||
17 | four-page black and white flyer to a 48-page full color | ||||||
18 | catalog; they sold the business upon their retirement; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Jane Harvey enjoyed spending time with her family | ||||||
20 | and encouraged all to do well in life and once said, "if there | ||||||
21 | is something you always wanted to do, you should do it now"; | ||||||
22 | she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and | ||||||
23 | sister; and

1 | WHEREAS, Jane Harvey was preceded in death by her husband, | ||||||
2 | John Cole Harvey; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Jane Harvey is survived by her three children, | ||||||
4 | Scott Miner Harvey, Gayle Harvey, and Joan Windsor Harvey; her | ||||||
5 | grandchildren, Braden Harvey, Shannon Harvey, Christina Edson, | ||||||
6 | and her step-granddaughter, Danielle Edson Pierce; therefore, | ||||||
7 | be it

8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
10 | Jane Miner Harvey, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
11 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
12 | further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to the family of Jane Harvey as an expression of our | ||||||
15 | deepest sympathy.
