     Amends the School Code. Provides that a school board shall require each physical education teacher or health teacher to complete an open water safety training course, approved by the State Board of Education, prior to employment by a school district. Effective July 1, 2019.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
  
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
 
3represented in the General Assembly:
  
 
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended  by adding Sections 
510-20.67 and 34-18.60 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.67 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.67. Physical education or health teacher; 
8training course. A school board shall require each physical 
9education teacher or health teacher to complete an open water 
10safety training course, approved by the State Board of 
11Education, prior to employment by a school district.
 
12    (105 ILCS 5/34-18.60 new)
13    Sec. 34-18.60. Physical education or health teacher; 
14training course. The board shall require each physical 
15education teacher or health teacher to complete an open water 
16safety training course, approved by the State Board of 
17Education, prior to employment by the school district.
 
 
18    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, 
192019.
