Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates May 17th of each year as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 133 as follows: |
6 | | (5 ILCS 490/133 new) |
7 | | Sec. 133. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) |
8 | | Awareness Day. May 17th of each year is designated as Diffuse |
9 | | Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day. Brain tumors are |
10 | | the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children, and |
11 | | DIPG is a highly aggressive brain tumor that affects roughly |
12 | | 300 children a year in the United States. DIPG Awareness Day is |
13 | | to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the |
14 | | people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this |
15 | | particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.
