AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1482




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1482 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
4    "Section 5. The Education for Homeless Children Act is 
5amended  by changing Section 1-10 as follows:
 



6    (105 ILCS 45/1-10)



7    Sec. 1-10. Choice of schools. 

8    (a) When a child loses permanent housing and becomes a 
9homeless person
within the meaning of Section 1-5 5, or when a 
10homeless child changes his or her
temporary living 
11arrangements, the school district shall, pursuant to a best 
12interest determination under the federal Every Student 
13Succeeds Act the parents or guardians of the homeless child

14shall have the option of either:


15        (1) continue continuing the child's education in the 
16    school of origin for as long
as the child remains homeless

1    or, if the child becomes permanently housed,
until the end 
2    of the academic year during which the housing is acquired; 
3    or


4        (2) enroll enrolling the child in any school that 
5    nonhomeless students who live
in the attendance area in 
6    which the child or youth is actually living are
eligible to 
7    attend.
